Belfast Reconciliation Consultation
September 7-13, 2007

An invitation from Dr. Bob Lupton

"Dear colleagues on the urban front: I am eagerly anticipating our gathering in Ireland this September. Reconciliation is a big word with many expressions. And regardless of our ministry context, it is central to our work as Kingdom people.  I look forward to listening to lifelong enemies in Belfast talk candidly about reaching across forbidding barbed-wire divides to find true partnership – an intriguing backdrop to explore the anatomy of reconciliation. Vivid, personal stories of atrocities and forgiveness, of racism and bridge-building, shared by front-line practitioners from around the world, promise to be as inspiring they are instructive."  – Bob Lupton

Reconciliation is the way forward, at home, in the community, and in the world—Everyone should walk this journey...

An invitation from Special Guest Dr. John Perkins

"Dear Friends, I hope you will join us in Belfast this September as we explore reconciliation and all that it means on a personal, community, and international level. From my home in Jackson, Mississippi to the far regions of the earth, we need to grow in our understanding of bearing God's peace. If God's heart beats for reconciliation and we plan to spend eternity with him, perhaps we should explore what it means to us, our families, our community, and our world. This consultation is not simply an academic pursuit but a learning experience for those who have been working in this field and those who are beginning to learn what reconciliation means in our lives. My daughter Elizabeth and I are traveling together on this journey and I encourage you to bring a family member or a close friend to grow with us. I am looking forward to being with you and sharing the grace God has given me. Please join us!"  – John Perkins

These interviewees discuss their beliefs and convictions, their understanding of Northern Ireland's troubled history and their hopes and fears for the future. The result is a candid and complex portrait of an influential community – a portrait that also offers a more profound understanding of the wider society in which evangelicals live, work and worship.
